History & Background
Carol
Richards (Executive Director) started working in the
SDS program in 1999, when she was hired by United
Cerebral Palsy as the SDS program accountant.
At that time, the program had 20-30 participants. Carol
developed all of the policies and procedures for the
administration of the program and has been involved
continually since then. In the spring of 2000, both
United
Cerebral Palsy and Dane
County Human Services felt that it was a conflict
of interest for UCP to continue to administer the SDS
accounting program, as they also employ community support
brokers who work with the SDS program directly. Carol’s
commitment to the program was strong, so she founded
Fiscal Assistance of Dane County, Inc. to continue the
service.
Kathy Hennek joined the agency in November of 2002.
Kelly Kenyon and Barb Daane came on board in April 2005.
Today, Fiscal Assistance provides SDS fiscal management
to over 1100 participants. Along with SDS fiscal management
services, we have branched out into other administrative
areas. We also provide Social Security representative
payee services to people who live in adult family homes
in the community, Social Security representative payee
services to private individuals, and Employer Agent
services that are designed to empower people with disabilities
to employ the caregivers of their choice.
Areas
of Expertise
Our area of expertise is the ability to provide detailed
accounting information both on a summary level and the
consumer level. It is a challenge to keep up with an
ever-changing human service system and to tweak standard
accounting software to meet the needs of the people
and the system.
